Philippine flag was proudly hoisted in Austria as Imusicapella, a choir from Cavite province dominated the International Choral Competition Ave Verum in Baden, Lower Austria. The competition was held on May 31 until June 2, 2019.
Imusicapella, a church-based choir in Imus, Cavite, won the Grand Prix Ave Verum.
Led by conductor Tristan Ignacio, the 18-member chamber choir bested other international choirs from USA, Hungary, Ukraine, Sweden, Austria and Ireland.
Fr. Ron Sandoval, SVD, Chaplain oft he Philippine Gottesdienst Gemeinde in Austria Elmer Blanco, president of Austria’s Global Save Life Foundation, and also from Imus, Cavite and other benevolent Filipinos in Vienna accompanied the choir members during their stay in Austria.
“I am happy that IMUSICAPELLA won the competition knowing that it brought pride and honor to the country,” Blanco said.
Officials from the Philippine Embassy in Austria were also present during the competition in Baden, Austria.
Choir members ecstatically waved their Philippine flag when the announcement was made.
Formed in 2002, “Imusicapella” is a church choir based at the Our Lady of the Pillar Parish in Imus City, Cavite. The choir regularly sings at the Imus Cathedral and St. Peregrine Chapel.
They have successfully represented the Philippines by winning a number of awards in some of the world’s most prestigious choral competitions around the world.
Last year, IMUSICAPELLA won the coveted GRAND PRIX award at the 39th International May Choir Competition Prof. Georgi Dimitrov 2018 in Varna Bulgaria.
