09 June 2019 – Filipino community in Austria celebrated the 121st anniversary of Philippine Independence last June 09 in Vienna at the Marriott Hotel, Vienna. The event, which bannered the theme, “KALAYAAN 2019 – TAPANG NG BAYAN, MALASAKIT SA MAMAMAYAN ( Courage, of the nation compassion for the people), was a celebration of the Filipino heritage and tradition, as well as a reminder to Filipinos in Austria of their roots and their responsibilities toward their country.
In her opening remarks, Council of Filipino Associations Chairman Ms. Hilaria Banban Garcia challenged every Filipino to bear in mind that, wherever he or she may be, has a role to play in the nation’s development. Our hard-earned independence comes with responsibility to build a prosperous nation founded on truth, justice and equity.
Guided by this year’s Independence Day theme, the CFAA Chairman call on every Filipino to support the momentum towards positive and constructive change.
In her message, Consul General Deena Joy Amatong thanked the Filipino community for celebrating this historical occasion.
„I want to greet everyone a joyful and meaningful celebration of the 121st proclamation of the Philippine Independence. The Philippine Embassy in Austria led by Her Excellency Ambassador Maria Cleofe Natividad and the officials and staff of the Philippine Embassy in Austria are one with you celebrating this historical occasion,“ the Consul General said.
Amatong likewise acknowledged the unity that binds the Filipino community in Austria.
„It is not only that we come together to showcase what is beautiful and unique in our national identity but i believe it is also an excellent occasion to remind ourselves that we are one. We are a community, and together we can do great things. We remember our heroes of days past who fought for our freedom. We are also reminded that we have a responsiblity to protect and preserve this freedom for future generations. The theme of this years years independence day – Kalayaan 2019, Tapang ng Bayan Malasakit sa Mamamayan, Courage of the nation compassion for the people. These are the values that would serve as we strive to achieve the dignity of the Filipino, “ Amatong added.
Consul General Deena Joy Amatong also reminded the Filipino community of their roots and their responsibilities to their country. She extolled the contributions of Filipinos overseas to the country’s development and encouraged those present to continue doing their share towards nation-building.
“ I commend tha CFAA and its member organsations for underaking projects that benefit the Filipino community in Austria and our brothers and sisters back home We urge you to continue fostering a strong Filipino continue in Austria and wherever you maybe. We thank you for the hard work that you have already put in through the years that shows a community that is responsible and responsive to the needs of others,” the Consul General said.
Fourteen Filipinos from the United States, who are visiting Austria, also graced the occasion. One of them, Mrs. Elina Yabe, is very glad to join the celebration.
“I am so proud to be here. My friend a classmate of mine for 41 years are celebrating our 45 years of being together in college. She invited us over. I am so glad to be here. There are 14 of us here, we travelled all the way from the United States. And I am so glad I did it. Thank you very much for inviting me,” Mrs. Yabe said.
The 121st Philippine Independence Day Ball 2019 was truly an evening to remember as guests dressed in a dazzling array of Filipiniana and contemporary evening gowns and formal attire celebrated the Philippines’ national birthday with a stunning showcase of Filipino talents, creativity, and artistry. It was an unforgettable and meaningful event that projected a favourable image and positive reputation of the Philippines and the Filipino people.
A participant of the Independence Day celebration also enjoined the Filipinos in Austria not to waver from the straight and righteous path, and to continue respecting both Philippine and Austrian laws.
The event provided an opportunity for Filipinos to see old friends, meet new ones, and come together in the spirit of independence and love of country, and renewal of their commitment to being a Filipino.
Barrio Fiesta Aside from this major gala dinner, the Barrio Fiesta will be staged to celebrate the 121st Declaration of Philippine Independence Day — this will be celebrated in the usual festive manner, Pinoy-style!
The Barrio Fiesta in Vienna is a free event open to the public. Everyone is invited to attend the fiesta on Saturday, 27th July 2019 to participate in the festivities.
The Council of Filipino Associations in Austria shall provide pure Pinoy fun and entertainment by featuring the best of Filipino cultural performances. It aims to bring together and capture the unique qualities and spectacles of the Philippine’s fiesta. The Barrio Fiesta 2018 in Vienna will be held at the ATV Liesing Sportsplatz – Pellmanngasse 2, 1230 Vienna.
