The Novo Ecijanos in Austria celebrated on September 1, 2018 the 122nd Anniversary of the Unang Sigaw ng Nueva Ecija. The celebration was staged at the Salvatorianer Church Hall, 1100 Vienna.
The event marked the day when Llanera led home-grown revolutionaries in assaulting the Spanish garrison in San Isidro and freed hundreds of Katipuneros on September 2, 1896. For its role in the revolution, the province earned its place in the Philippine flag as one of the eight rays of the sun, each ray representing the provinces that revolted against the Spaniards.
Vicky Lim, Vice President of ANEA welcomed everyone in her opening remarks. The Vice President delivered a very interesting speech, mentioning historical recalls and spiritual rejuvenation of the province Neuva Ecija.
Armando Dingboy Ortiz, President of the Association of Novo Ecijanos in Austria said that the festivity wants to commemorate the event for Novo Ecijanos to appreciate history.
The President likewise expressed his gratitude to the members and officers of ANEA and to the whole Filipino community in Austria for supporting the programs of the association.
“MARAMING maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat na nagtulong-tulong, nagbigay ng panahon at nakiisa upang ang ANEA ay muling matagumpay na makapagdaos ng aming paggunita dito sa Vienna, Austria ng pagdiriwang ng 122th Unang Sigaw ng Nueva Ecija,” the President said.
Officials from the Philippine Embassy in Vienna likewise graced the Occasion.
An array of cultural presentation likewise added color to the celebration.
Filipino Community leaders in Vienna also joined the Novo Ecijanos in Austria as they commemorate and take pride on their display of unity and great courage during the early days of 1896 Philippine revolution. The historic event is considered one of the first freedom movements of Filipinos against the Spanish invasion.
Throughout the years, ANEA has been steadfast in its efforts to provide outreach services to fellow Novo Ecijanos back home through various projects which include skills building and livelihood training in massage therapy, reflexology and basic mechinics skills in cooperation with TESDA (Technical Education and Skills Development Authority), medical and dental missions, and scholarships.
Aside from its tireless advocacies and projects, ANEA had also promoted a positive image of Filipinos here in Austria showing the growing importance of Filipino overseas as partners of Philippine development and nation-building.
