The Filipino community in Austria is no doubt filled with young and talented Filipino entrepreneurs. Over the last years, the rise of Filipino talents in Austria has been an unstoppable phenomena.
John and Marijo Eleazar, husband and wife team, are the new breed of audio-visual artists that promote Filipino creativity in a new niche.
John and Marijo Eleazar knew each other since childhood. They visited the same kindergarten, primary and secondary schools in Cainta, Rizal. John joined his mother in Austria when he was 17 years old. Marijo continued her studies in the Philippines, where she finished Bachelor of Science in Tourism. She took entrepreneurship and management courses in Master on Strategic Management at the University of Innsbruck.
John took up human medicine at the University of Innsbruck. During his medicine years, he got the inclination to audio-visual arts. His curiosity led him into learning more about film techniques, leaving his medicine course.
“I bought a top end DSLR camera as a present to myself with little knowledge about it. I made a short image video of the company where I worked during that time. The chief appreciated the image ad I made and recommended me to other firms. This was actually the beginning of my career as a cinematographer and film editor,” John related.
“The image ads I made at the beginning weren’t the absolute best but my professionalism is what stood up,” John added.
In the meanwhile, John and Marijo got married. In 2011, their oldest son David was born. Their second son, Adam came four years later.
“We are very passionate in what we do. As husband and wife team, we are strengthened by our similarities and differences. We have different role but of the same task – to deliver a heartfelt and lasting films,” Marijo asserted.
“I see John as a passionate filmmaker. As if he grew up to love shooting. I have the utmost respect for him and his ability to bring out the best in others. He has an extremely natural talent for spotting potentials,” Marijo added.
My most inspiration comes from my wife, Marijo, who always believed in me from the very start. Though this is not her field of expertise, she is doing very well with her video editing and cinematography,” John said.
At the moment, the husband and wife team are very much involved in making dynamic wedding videos. They are working together with prominent Austrian and international wedding planers, who eventually recommend their excellent videos to their clients. John and Marijo are officially registered in Austria with their company name ELEAZARFILM: Storytelling and beyond.
Aside from being a celebrated cinematographer-couple among wedding circles, the two have launched a new product that could help and inspire future couples for their wedding plans. John and Marijo conceptualized the idea of putting into short, documentary style videos the important contents involved in wedding preparations. John and Marijo call their concept, Wedding Lounge, probably the first of its kind in Europe.
“We have professional wedding planers in our team. In our short videos, they answer specific questions about wedding preparations. They also give advice, information and words of inspiration. Aside from these, we are also featuring wedding suppliers and other important things pertaining to wedding industry,” John explained.
The wedding Lounge will be officially introduced to the public later this year. If you are interested to know more about Wedding Lounge, you can visit their website:www.weddinglounge.tv
Formula to success
John sums up his formula to success, “I always endeavor to innovate and take risks. I want to be expressive and artistic. Sometimes, I spent the whole night with my wife discussing about certain point of my videos. But somehow, such discussions turned out to be very significant for our work.”
John and Marijo hope to inspire Filipinos and show them that no matter where “we come from, with utmost passion and dedication and faith, we can be at par with the rest of the world.”
“Never give-up, learn from your mistakes and produce better results next time! It is the same way to be successful at anything you want to pursue,” Marijo said.
The husband and wife team want to impart their advice to those who want to follow their path in the field of audio-visual art.
“It doesn’t matter what experience you have, how many years you have been in the industry, how many clients you have served, how much money you have made, if you don’t have the passion, you won’t be successful at it,” John said.
“One should have the utmost passion to learn anything and everything about cinematography and be able to share and teach it to others,” Marijo added.
