Today, the 12th of June, is a day of national celebration and pride for all Filipinos – remembering the day in 1898 when independence was declared.
It is fitting today also to recognise the many Filipinos working overseas. Austria is now home to around 35,000 Filipinos and the contribution they make to their communities is highly valued. This underlines the strengthening ties between Philippines and Austria.
I commend the leaders of our Filipino community in Austria for bringing together in the spirit of unity the various professional, faith-based, service-oriented, Filipino associations in celebration of freedom in a manner that showcases to the people in Austria the richness and beauty of Philippine cultural heritage.
A strong contingent of Filipino United Nations employees in Vienna will commemorate today the 117th year of Philippine Independence inside the premises of the United Nations Headquarters here.
The celebration by Vienna International Center Club Filipino will showcase the diversity and richness of Philippine culture in their colorful costumes and festive music.
On Saturday, June 13, the Council of Filipino Association in Austria will lead the celebration of the 117th anniversary of the Philippine Independence at the Marriott Hotel in Vienna’s first District.
The Philippine-Press (Austria) join the millions of Filipinos back home and all over the world in a testament of our loyalty, love and concern for our Inang Bayan, the Philippines. I enjoin the Filipino-Austrian community to join hands in reaffirming the collective resolve and commitment to work together for a Philippines free from poverty, corruption, oppression and ignorance. These are the same ideals by which our forebears lived, sacrificed and offered their lives for.
Happy Independence Day!
Mabuhay po ang mga Pinoy! Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!
