As a Roman Catholic country, Holy Week is a significant religious festival in the Philippines. Beginning Maundy Thursday, businesses either shut down operations until Black Saturday or have later opening and earlier closing times. Good Friday is a public holiday, commemorated with solemn street processions, the Way of the Cross, Jesus’ Seven Last Words and a traditional Passion play. In some communities, the processions include devotees who self-flagellate and sometimes even have themselves nailed to crosses as expressions of penance, in fulfilment of a vow, or in thanksgiving for a granted request.
In Austria, Filipino Catholics will be staging a passion play on Good Friday. The play is initiated by the Loved Flock Community in Vienna.
The Passion play will start at 15 Hours at the Donaucity Church, Donaucitystrasse 2, 1220 in Vienna.
The Loved Flock Community challenges all to render themselves witnesses to His fearless death and become tokens of His last promise… forgiveness!
