Four and half months after our Charity Concert “mit Musik helfen” on April 26, 2014, we are pleased to show the results of our efforts to help the fisherfolks of three villages along Ormoc Bay. We were able to send to the Philippines the sum of almost €12,000. These funds were used to build 35 fishingboats, some of them large and motorized. I visited these villages in July and could see with my own eyes the very poor conditions these fisherfolks are living in. I was very lucky to have been in contact with Mr. Ricardo Peteros, an NGO working in these villages. He was distributing necessary day to day items and was running feeding programs in these villages right after the typhoon. While doing this work, he realised that the most sensible way to help the fisherfolks is to give them fishingboats. This he voiced out to our friends who then made contact with us. We made arrangements where the coordination is done by someone we can trust and rely on for such a project. Mr. Peteros made contact with two boat makers and the fishingboats were built and given to the beneficiaries as soon as they were finished. The sponsors from our concert chose the name of the boat they are sponsoring and you can see the results in the photos. We are grateful and thankful to all our sponsors, to Mr. Ricardo Peteros and Mrs. Marit Cabugon for making this project of the “Society of Friends of the Philippines in Austria” a success. The last four boats are still being built and we were told they will be done by the end of September 2014.
