Charity Events of Filipinos in Austria

charityThe spirit of bayanihan knows no boundaries, as seen in the magnanimous support for Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts from all parts of the world, including Austria.

Filipinos and Austrian friends conducted fund raising programs to raise funds to donate to their chosen relief agency or charitable institutions.

Organizers of the  Unity for a Cause, held at the Marriott Hotel, Vienna are very overwhelmed and touched by the generosity and concern from the Pinoys and foreign guests who attended the event.

A group of Filipinos and friends joined hands for a fundraising event held at the Badeschiff in Vienna’s 2nd District.It  was a full of activities, entertainment, culture and food.

Arlene Castaneda of the Sentro ng Wikang Pilipino at Austria and Alexandra Geromichalos, a businesswoman in Vienna  organized the event.

Even the Philippine Catholic Community in Vienna will be celebrated the Misa Aguinaldo for the typhoon victims. Mass collections from these mass celebrations were sent to the Philippines to help in the immediate relief efforts for the victims.

Apart from fundraising activities, numerous Filipino individuals and groups such as have also been sending donations in-kind such as relief goods and clothes to the typhoon-hit areas either directly or in partnership with various humanitarian organizations with active presence in the typhoon-affected regions.

The Philippine Association in Niederösterreich likewise collected a total amount of 4,018 Euros for the  typhoon victims.

The various fundraising and charity events being organized by Filipino communities across Austria complement the fund-raising done and donations given by various Austrian groups and companies. It should be remembered that the Austrian television (ORF) and all its media partners dedicated one day of its programming to help the typhoon victims.  The Austrian Television opened its telephone lines on November 18, 2013  to all Austrians and friends who want to donate for the victims of the horrible typhoon.
